Approval of May 14, 2003 Minutes: MVP. Revised GS Brochure: The committee reviewed the updated brochure and decided to distribute a copy to each member of the КкСЯГдЙЯЭјCollege faculty along with a letter that highlights the changes in the brochure. Discussion then ensued regarding the computer literacy certification required under the GS program. Committee members were unclear as to who was responsible for approving certification. Members were also concerned that the certification was not required in the graduation packet. The Chair promised to raise the issue for clarification at the next C&I meeting. Discussion of “Student Focus Group Assessment of GS Curriculum” and the GSC Agenda: The committee discussed the results of the GS Assessment Focus Groups, conducted March10-13, 2003 by Karen Green’s SOWK 312 students. Although all members of the committee recognize that the focus groups did not constitute a scientific sample, it was felt that the results may provide elementary insights into students’ feelings and concerns about the GS program. Committee members then discussed ways to involve the general faculty in contributing to the future agenda of the GSC. Many thoughts, ideas, and approaches were thrown out, and four areas of concern emerged from the discussion: coherence, diversity, flexibility/choice, and process. GSC Website: The committee discussed the GSC website, which was designed four years ago by Michael Austin but has not been updated since then. It was decided that the Chair would contact Tim Haines in order to update the website. The next meeting of the General Studies Committee will be at 3:10 PM on October 1st in White Hall 327.
