Approval of September 3, 2003, Minutes: MVP. 2. Curriculum Issues: A course description change concerning MATH 314 STATISTICS was proposed by Peter Morris, Chair of the Department of Mathematics - MVP. 3. Computer Literacy Certification: After much discussion, a group consensus emerged concerning simplifying the formal certification process. The suggestion to be passed on to the Registrar was to place the certification form with the material in the senior evaluation packet dispersed to the students each semester. 4. Assessment Report: Karen Green reported to the committee on the September 15 meeting of the Task Force. She reported that forms are now on-line for the reports due on October 4. Also, the Noel/Levitt Student Satisfaction Survey is now on-line. This will make it easier for the students to complete the questionnaire. 5. General Studies Program Review and 6. Continued Discussion of GSC Agenda: These two topics on the agenda were discussed simultaneously. Sub-topics brought up in a lengthy discussion were: (1) The focus group ideas concerning philosophy and psychology courses being integrated into the curriculum, (2) present processes whereby these ideas manifest themselves into new proposals, (3) attaching new proposals into the framework of the present brochure, and (4) new ideas concerning integrating community outreach and service learning goals into the General Studies program. A request emerged from the interaction of the members concerning a philosophy course. The group would like the History and English departments to discuss creating a philosophy course as an option to one of the two literature courses. The processes of creating the course and the housing of the course should be left up to the departments. 7. AAC&U General Education Conference: The GSC chair announced that the association will be holding its annual meeting March 4 through 6, 2004, in Long Beach, California. The meeting adjourned at 4:27 p.m. The next meeting of the committee will be on November 5 at 3:10 p.m. in White Hall 312. Submitted by V.J.
