Discussion of CTC course articulation and 2+2 program: A concern was discussed about students ability to finish in 2 years in the proposed 2+2 program. The Committee agreed that we do not want to compromise our programs to ensure that students can finish in 2 years and expressed concern about the level of preparation of incoming students. Finally, the Committee agreed that a vertically integrated GS program would allow these students to participate in our General Studies program properly. Working Group Reports: Karen Green, Alan Tinkler, and Larry Daily reported on their working group progress. The Working Group Leaders will give a formal campus report on their findings in the Fall. Assessment Report: The Assessment Committee had not yet met; however, Dr. Dwyer reported that the Assessment Committee was continuing to review samples for an alternate course evaluation form. Karen Green and Gordon DeMeritt are working on focus groups in response to the Noel-Levitz survey. Program Review Discussion: The Committee began its discussion of Ann Ferrens external review of the General Studies Program. The areas under discussion included the following: Review how students are introduced to the program. Evaluate other organizing principles for the program. Clarify the reasons why courses are included or not. Consider whether other courses might be added. Review syllabi to determine how each course conveys purpose and goals. The Committee charged the Chair with assuring that incoming students are aware of the importance of Liberal Arts in our curriculum. The Chair promised to speak with the team of summer faculty advisors to encourage them to share this information with new students, as well as to ensure that each incoming student received and reviewed a General Studies brochure. This theme will also be affirmed in the upcoming Convocation Address. The Committee agreed that the current General Studies Goals and Intendend Student Outcomes are solid but that implementation should be further examined.
