Stubblefield Institute celebrates students receiving leadership and advocacy certificates

SHEPHERDSTOWN, WV — The Bonnie and Bill Stubblefield Institute for Civil Political Communications at ºÚÁϳԹÏÍøUniversity distributed Community Leadership and Civil Advocacy Certificates (CLCAs) to West Virginian students on April 14 and 15.

ºÚÁϳԹÏÍøstudents Sherri Alayya, nursing; Nesryn Kelsey, social work; Karen Lewis-Dryden, Regents Bachelor of Arts; Grace McInelley, social work; and Kevin Murphy, Appalachian studies, were awarded these certificates in the Scarborough Library Reading Room on April 14.

Blue Ridge Community and Technical College student Veronica Parker, criminal justice, also received a certificate alongside the ºÚÁϳԹÏÍøstudents.

ºÚÁϳԹÏÍøUniversity President Dr. Mary J.C. Hendrix gave opening remarks during this event, and Stubblefield Institute Executive Director Ashley Horst and Program Coordinator Elaine Bobo presented the CLCAs to the recipients.

The following day, the Stubblefield Institute staff visited Morgantown, West Virginia, to present CLCAs to West Virginia University students Ariana Burks, international studies and geography; Agnes Mathenage, geography; and Garrett Oursler, environmental soils and water sciences.

The Community Leadership and Civil Advocacy certificate program is a 50+ hour program that prepares students to be effectively engaged community leaders and to acquire the skills to advocate for themselves, their community, and the causes they are passionate about.
