SHEPHERDSTOWN, WV — ºÚÁϳԹÏÍøUniversity is registered as a Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program site and participated in this year’s . ÌýÌý
Operating under the umbrella of the MountainHeart Community Services, Inc. and sponsored by the IRS, this nationwide program provides limited-income families and individuals with free tax preparation every tax season. ÌýÌý
For the 2024 tax season, 6 accounting students from Shepherd, the faculty supervisor, Professor Robert Perry, and 3 non-student VITA volunteers assisted in the preparation of 65 tax returns for the community. ÌýÌý
Students spent approximately 13 hours preparing tax returns over a seven-week period in addition to the required 6 hours of training through the IRS. ÌýÌý
The students provided a much-needed service to the community and gained valuable hands-on experience with tax preparation. â¶Ä¯Ìý
