Do I qualify for Federal Financial aid with Continuing Education courses?
Only degree-seeking students qualify for Federal Financial Aid; however, classes are economically priced, and, in many cases your employer or school district may pay for these classes or offer other financial assistance.
Do these classes have major assignments, projects, or homework?
Yes, in the case of graduate-level Education Professional Development (EDPD) courses, there are usually assigned readings or a paper included with the class grade. Every 3-cedit EDPD requires approximately 45 hours of coursework. However, Continuing Education Unit (CE) courses are for content only and do not have assignments due, only contact hours for the course.
How do I apply to take EDPD courses?
Create an account in our online portal and select “Start a New Application.” Under “Professional Development in Education, select “Start Application.” Submit your application and you will receive your student ID number and instructions on how to register for courses within 1-2 business days.
I haven’t received an email with registration instructions – what do I do?

I haven’t received an introductory email from my instructor – what do I do?
- Make sure you are checking your shepherd.edu email. Every student is issued a University email account and must regularly monitor it for official communications. You can access the ϳԹEmail system at. Be sure to retrieve your computer account before visiting this server. Your email address will beusername@rams.shepherd.edu.
- Check your spam.
- Check the personal email you used to register in case the instructor email went to that account by mistake. Let us know if this happens!

What is the grading policy for EDPD courses?
Please note that the passing grade for all ϳԹEDPD courses is listed as an S for satisfactory. This is equivalent to a B or better. This can be found in the University under the grading policy for Graduate and Professional Studies.

What do I need to do to take more than 9 EDPD credits in a semester?
EDPD students can take up to 18 credits/semester. To override the 9-credit limit, this has to be done on an individual basis, so contact usat 304-876-5313 or continuing-education@shepherd.edu.
