SHEPHERDSTOWN, WV — ºÚÁϳԹÏÍøUniversity recognized faculty and staff for their work over the past year with two annual award ceremonies.
The Faculty Awards Ceremony and Employee Service Recognition Luncheon take place each spring to honor ºÚÁϳԹÏÍøemployees for their achievements, dedication, and success.
Tammy Gill, director of human resource operations, said the luncheon is a heartfelt celebration everyone looks forward to.
“We honor our faculty and staff who reached significant service milestones this year, as well as retirees,” Gill said. “The luncheon continues to be a cherished tradition that underscores Shepherd’s commitment to valuing its employees — not just for what they do, but for who they are.”
Four staff members received awards after being nominated by their co-workers.
Gill noted that even though only one person receives the award, staff members all over campus are nominated.
The 2025 staff awards are:
The Above and Beyond Award: Emmy Wilson, student employment coordinator
The Excellent Service to Students Award: Juneau Daggs, student success coach
The Making a Difference Award: Anthony Stoika, administrative assistant
The Ram Spirit Award: Marci Magaha, facilities management
Employees with service anniversaries in 5-year increments receive recognition up to 35 years of service.
Over 30 individuals were honored for their contributions and service to ºÚÁϳԹÏÍøUniversity this year.
On May 5, the 2025 Faculty Awards took place.
Dr. Richie Stevens, associate provost for faculty affairs, said the annual awards are important because they highlight the great work happening at Shepherd.
“We are proud of the dedication of our full-time and adjunct faculty,” Stevens said. “They excel in all that they do each semester to provide quality education to our students, both in and out of the classroom.”
The 2025 Faculty Awards are:
Douglas C. Smith Distinguished Graduate Faculty Award: Dr. David Lovett, School of Education
Outstanding Service Award: Dr. Samuel Greene, associate professor of political science
Outstanding Scholar Award: Dr. Heidi Hanrahan, associate professor of English
Outstanding Advisor Award: Dr. Jessica Grahm, assistant professor of recreation, sport, and exercise science
Outstanding Teacher Award: Dr. Zachary Musselman, associate professor of environmental sciences
Mentzer Award for Inspirational Teaching: Dr. Arend Holtslag, associate professor of political science
Storer College Faculty Award: Dr. Denis Berenscholt, associate professor of Spanish
Outstanding Adjunct-Instruction Award: Sharon Flamand, adjunct faculty, School of Education
Outstanding Adjunct-Commitment to the Community Award: Dr. Krista Ematrudo, adjunct faculty, School of Education
